Dedication

This show is dedicated to our oceans and all the creatures that reside within and around them. Oceans generate half of the oxygen we breathe and, at any given moment, they contain more than 97% of the world's water. Living oceans absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and reduce climate change impacts. As humans, we are born into the world from a water environment and therefore are inextricably linked not just to land, but also to the oceans.

The artists performing tonight are part of a butoh community that has been practicing and performing together since April 2016. Butoh is a process-oriented and method-based, avant-garde performance discipline from Japan that carries with it a focus on lineage. In butoh, one’s lineage is tied directly to one’s current practice as a performer. This principle keeps all members of the community connected to one another and to the ancestors of the movement and it also provides the basis for humility and homage in practice.
